Day 1  Arrive Yangon

Upon arrival in Yangon, Myanmar’s capital, you will be greeted and escorted to the hotel. 

 

Day 2 Yangon – Bagan (AB)
Transfer to airport for your morning flight to Bagan. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and proceed for sightseeing to Shwezigon Paya. Continue your visit to Gubyaukhyi Temple at Wetkyi-inn. This temple was built in the early 13th Century and repaired in 1468. After that, you will visit Ananda Pahto, one of the finest, largest, best preserved and most revered of the Bagan temples. Gubyaukgyi Temple in Myinkaba was built in 1113 by Kyansittha’s son Rajakumar, this temple is famous for its well-preserved Stuccos from the 12 century on the outside walls. Continue your visit to Manuha Temple which was built in 1059 by King Manuha, the King of Thaton who was brought captive to Bagan by King Anawrahta. It is said that this temple was built by Manhua to express his displeasure about his captivity in Bagan. In 1057, King Anawrahta built Shwesandaw Paya following his conquest of Thaton. Stop by at one of the Lacquerware Workshop and learn about the painstaking process of lacquerware making and decoration. You will overnight in Bagan tonight. 

Day 3 Bagan (AB)
Today’s excursion is to Mount Popa, the home of Myanmar most important nats (spirits). Visitors ascend up a winding covered staircase encircling the mountain, observed by the curious monkeys that populate the area. At the top is a monastery and temple complex, with shrines to the 37 nats and a spectacular view over the region. Continue your visit to Salay to explore local life in this unspoiled Burmese town. You will visit Yoke Son Kyaung, the oldest surviving wooden monastery with beautiful carving of court life and scenes from the Ramayana. Continue to wander around the town, visiting the market and the Thar Ta Na Yaung Chi Monastery, which also serve as orphanage. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. 

 

​Day 4 Bagan – Mandalay (AB)
Transfer to airport for your flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, your sightseeing in Mandalay begins with a visit to Mahamuni Paya. The Mahamuni image enshrined here is perhaps the most venerated image in Myanmar, covered in over 15cm of gold leaf. En route, stop to observe the laborious process of gold-leaf beating, where gold is painstakingly hammered into tissue-thin squares. You will also visit a craft workshop specializing in one of the arts for which the city is famous: bronze-casting, marble-carving, wood-carving, or puppetry. Your afternoon tour includes some of the city’s most interesting temples and palaces. Begin at Shwenandaw Kyaung, or the Golden Teak Monastery. Built entirely of golden teak, this intricately carved wooden monastery was once part of the Mandalay Palace, used as private apartments by King Mindon and his chief queen. Continue to Kyauktawgyi Paya, famous for its monumental seated Buddha, carved from a single block of marble. Continue to Kuthodaw Paya, known also as “the world’s biggest book”. The final stop is at Shwe Kyin Old Monastery at the base of Mandalay Hill which was built during the period of King Mindon.
 

​​Day 5 Mandalay (AB)
Today’s excursion is to visit three former royal capitals each with its own unique atmosphere. This morning, drive to Amarapura and visit Mahagandayon Monastery; everyday at mid-morning, monks and novices line up to receive their daily offering of alms and food from faithful Buddhists. Continue to visit Sagaing, the spiritual center of Myanmar. Stop at some of the most famous temples such as Sun U Ponya Shin Paya, U Min Thonsei Paya and Kaung Hmu Daw Paya. Cross the river by ferry to Inwa (Ava), situated on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. Enjoy a leisurely horse cart ride around the peaceful countryside. Briefly visit Bagaya Kyaung, Maha Aungmyay Bonzan Kyaung and Nan Myint Tower. On the way, stop and observe how local artisans make the famous alms bowls out of iron. Finally return to Amarapura to end the day at U Bein’s bridge, a picturesque teak bridge which extends over 1km across Taungthaman Lake. At dusk, the bridge teems with monks and local people as they stroll home or linger to enjoy the colors of the sunset.

 

Day 6 Mandalay – Heho – Inle Lake (AB)
Transfer to airport for your flight to Heho. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transfer to Inle Lake. Check in to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure.
 

Day 7 Inle Lake (AB)
Today, enjoy excursion by boat on the Inle Lake. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and observe the skilled fishermen using their leg-rowing technique to propel themselves around the lake. Visit the floating gardens, a market and Intha Village around the lake. You will also visit the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda and Inn Paw Khon Village (Lotus and silk weaving) and the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery.

 

Day 8 Inle Lake – Heho – Yangon (AB)
Transfer back to Heho Airport for flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and proceed for sightseeing. First you will visit the Sule Pagoda, a gleaming octagonal pagoda that stands squarely at the center point of the city. Afterwards, visit the National Museum (closed on Mondays and Public Holidays) to gain an insight into Myanmar. See the eight meter high Sihasana Lion Throne, used by the last Burmese King and other fascinating artifacts from Burmese history and culture. Your final stop is at the famous Shwedagone Pagoda, the highlight of any visit to Yangon. Towering over the city, this pagoda is the most sacred spot in the country, built to house eight hair relics of the Buddha. The Shwedagon and surrounding shrines are at their most beautiful during the sunset hour, as the golden stupa reflects the changing colors of twilight.
 

Day 9 Yangon – Home (AB)
Farewell to Yangon. Transfer to airport for your flight back to the USA.
